I haven’t done a post like this in a long while and I thought what a better time to chat and catch up than on the most thankful day of the year?
Tomorrow is Thanksgiving and I still can’t believe it. This year has been simultaneously the hardest, most rewarding, and fastest year of my life. I think one of the reasons I held out on you guys with a post of this nature was largely in part due to the former, and I am writing it now in part because of the later, and the one in the middle (lol).
I like to do a yearly recap post which will happen in about 6 weeks (which is about all we have left of this year if you can wrap your brain around that…) so I don’t want to spill all the beans just yet. Today I wanted to share 5 things: something I struggling with, something I’ve gained, something I’ve lost, something I’ve learned, and naturally, something I’m thankful for.
something I struggle with…
My anxiety has been a struggle this year. It’s always a balancing act trying to figure out a way to feel close with all you but also feel like a measure of discretion is active in my life. As much as I love all of you reading this, you really don’t need to know all the hairy bits of my life, that and I want to leave this space a positive and helpful one so negatively will be filtered. If this bothers you I apologize and I hope you can understand.
This year has had a lot of change, and a lot of it was hard for me, so my anxiety, especially as a person who likes to be in control, was through the roof. That being said, we only truly grow as individuals when we’re buried in the dirt, which brings me to what I’ve gained…
something I’ve gained…
I read a beautiful article written by a friend of a friend about growth. It said that we need to be farmers and cultivate our gardens. We can’t know for sure which flowers will bloom, but if you tend to your garden every day, inevitably, your flowers, the ones meant for you, will.
I decided that I needed to focus on my garden since a lot of other responsibilities were taken out of my hands. So I tended to things like enjoying time spent in my own company, bringing better and more consistent content to the blog, growing my photography portfolio, being a better friend, and spending time reflecting on myself and being a stronger individual. I’m still tending to my garden, but I can see a few flowers that have started to bloom and I’ve gained a stronger sense of independence and strength because of it.
something I’ve lost…
In more recent months I have lost a sense of fear I had in the beginning of the year. I’m not as afraid of change, I’m not afraid that some things are out of my control (including other people), and I’m not afraid to be on my own. In this sense of independence I gained, I let go of the fear of losing things, what is meant to be will be mine when it’s meant to.
something I’ve learned…
I’ve grown so much this year it’s hard to pick just one thing I’ve learned, and I’m also a list girl, so here are a few lessons I’ve already touched on and a few others..
- Tend to your garden everyday, you might be surprised at what blooms
- What is meant to be will be yours when it’s meant to
- You can’t control other people so don’t let that mess with your inner peace
- In the end, no one is going to take care of you but you, so tend to your garden, handle your business, and the person whose company you should enjoy most should be your own.
something I’m thankful for…
Which leads me to the nice big bow I’m going to stick on this post, something I’m thankful for. Do I have to pick just one? This is probably the hardest to answer because for me it’s all the little things you might miss if you aren’t watching. Here are a few that jump to mind…
- Waking up early to a crowing rooster and a beautiful summer sunrise
- After a long week of practically living and working out of my car, not having to pack anything or set an alarm for the next day
- Coffee is really all I can think of at this point and since this is a “thankful for the little things” list it really is the MVP here
